Brother Caleb Smith Elected as ‘24-’25 SGA Executive Vice President
On Wednesday night, 2023 President Theo Thoenes and the remainder of the ‘23 SGA Executive Branch announced the election results for the upcoming 2024-2025 year. With that, FarmHouse brother Caleb Smith was officially elected as the ‘24-’25 SGA Executive Vice President.
“Being elected SGA Executive Vice President has been one of the greater honors I have had while at Troy. It’s a role that I am excited to serve the university through, and I am so thankful that the student body entrusted me with it,” Smith said. “I ran on a platform that Troy has always felt like home to me, and I hope that as EVP, I can make changes so that every Trojan feels the same exact way.”
As Executive Vice President-elect, Smith is set to join President-elect Betsy Bennett, Vice President of Campus Affairs elect Burnard Thomas, Vice President of Internal Affairs elect Markus Cooper, and Executive Secretary elect Kazani Snell on Exec for the upcoming year.
Smith, a Sophomore Risk Management Insurance Major from Hokes Bluff, Al, will serve in Troy’s student government for his third year. As a Freshman, Smith was selected as one of 55 Delegates in Freshman Forum, later serving on the Campus Life Committee and serving as one of two Directors for the 2023 Excellence in Leadership Conference. For all his hard work and success, Smith was awarded the 2023 Mr. Freshman Forum Award at the annual Freshman Forum banquet.
In his sophomore year, Smith, along with Snell, were selected as the two Co-Freshman Forum Directors for the 2024-2025 school year. As a Director, Smith was tasked with assisting the executive officers and members in getting everything done on the agenda and acting as a mentor to the freshmen. Under Smith and Snell’s guidance, Freshman Forum managed to pass two separate bills approved and resolved in the SGA Senate, host the first-annual Turkey Trot race, hold a Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King with guest speaker Mrs. Elizabeth Huntley, and notch the highest number of freshmen participants in the Freshman Run since Covid. Delegates were also allowed to attend the Freshman Leadership Conference, Higher Education Day, and the Alabama YMCA Collegiate Legislature in Montgomery, Alabama’s state capitol.
“My time as Freshman Forum Director has been surreal. Being able to serve as the leader of and mentor to fifty-two college freshmen has been the pinnacle of my college career thus far. I have loved every minute of serving as Director because it has allowed me to both pour into others and build myself as a leader.”
Meanwhile, Smith is an active member of FarmHouse Fraternity, and is part of the Beta Upsilon pledge class from the fall of 2022. During his time as a Brother, Smith served as the Assistant Vice-President of Finance as a Freshman, and currently serves as the Vice President of Brotherhood.
On campus, Smith serves as the President of the Student Alumni Association, the Head of Finance for The Living Stones Retreat, and on the Greek Week Committee, as well as being a member of Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society, Gamma Iota Sigma (RMI society), and the Alabama Collegiate Legislature.
