Brothers Bradley Smith, Camden Cummings Finish ‘24 Summer as Impact Leaders

In December of 2023, Troy University’s Office of Admissions announced the 14 new Leaders for Impact, who are tasked with guiding incoming students around campus, to register for classes for the Fall 2024 semester, to get their Trojan ID card, and to get to know all about Troy’s 150+ student organizations. Throughout the summer, Brothers Bradley Smith and Camden Cummings have served the University through their positions as Counselors across nine Freshman sessions and two transfer sessions.

“My experience as an IMPACT leader for Troy University is one of my biggest accomplishments in life,” Cummings said. “This opportunity gave me the ability to interact not only with the incoming students, but also offered me the ability to grow closer with other student leaders and administrators at Troy. I want to thank God for this opportunity he presented me with!”

Smith, an Accounting Major from Marietta, GA, was partnered with Chandler Paymon and led the Purple Reign team. Cummings, a Pre-Law Major from Jemison, AL, worked alongside Kappa Delta Sister Grace Hatchell on the Pink Dream Team. During the sessions, eight different color teams competed against each other for points to win the Spirit Stick.

Towards the end of Impact, incoming freshmen and transfer students learned how to plan their class schedule, and made class selections for the upcoming Fall semester. In addition, incoming students discovered more about the 150+ student organizations, services, and activities at Troy during the browsing sessions.

“Browse sessions were an important part of IMPACT because it gave the incoming students the opportunity to meet people and organizations before they come to campus this fall,” Smith said. “A lot of the students told me they enjoyed talking to the organizations and it helped them feel more comfortable about making the adjustment to college life this fall.”

On campus, Smith has served as the Sorrell Men’s Society Chairman of Finance and Administration, an SGA Senator, a Trojan Ambassador, the Sergeant at Arms of Troy Senate, the Co-President of the Student Culinary Council, and is part of the Sorrell College of Business Dean’s Advisory Council and the ASL Club. Meanwhile, Cummings has served as an SGA senator, a counselor for The Living Stones Church Retreat, and on the YMCA Collegiate Legislature.

“To anyone on the fence about going out for the position, do it! Never count yourself out until you have put your name in the hat and if you are lucky enough to be selected as a leader seize the opportunity,” Cummings said. “I experienced so much growth this summer and if I wouldn’t have gone out of my comfort zone to interview, I wouldn’t be the man I am today.”
