FarmHouse Raises Over $30,000 in Support of AFSP during ‘24 Philanthropy Week
This past week, from April 22 to 25, Troy FarmHouse organized its annual spring Philanthropy week. Led by Vice President of Philanthropy Jared Wesolek and his assistants Charlie McCullough and Garrett McKeon, Troy FarmHouse raised over $30,000 through several spirit nights, the carwash, and its 26th annual Crawfish Boil.
Throughout the week, Troy FarmHouse and Wesolek partnered with several different businesses for spirit nights, which donated a certain percentage of sales made throughout the allocated time. The businesses that partnered with Troy FarmHouse across the week included West Walnut Cookie Co. The Corner, Los Hermanos, Echo Nutrition, and Moe’s Original BBQ. In addition, Troy FarmHouse hosted its annual carwash on Tuesday, and raised $520 behind McCullough.
“It was an honor and privilege to help bring awareness to something so important to our brothers,” McCullough said.
On Thursday, Troy FarmHouse hosted their 26th annual Crawfish Boil on Sorority Hill from 5-8 PM. In total, Troy FarmHouse raised around $7,000 and had nearly 700 people buy tickets and come to Crawfish Boil. During the event, music artist Noah Swanson provided live music throughout the night and Chi Omega’s Morgan Bundy was named the ‘24 Crawfish Queen after raising $4,703 via CrowdChange.
“It means a lot to have another successful crawfish boil. Coming into the philanthropy chair spot, the former philanthropy chair told me it would be very hard, but very rewarding, and that couldn’t have been more spot on,” Wesolek said. “All of the hard work that was put in by my brothers and I was 100% worth it in the end.”
For the first time in chapter history, Troy FarmHouse did not support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society as their chosen Philanthropy. Instead, Troy FarmHouse supported the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in remembrance and honor of Matthew Spencer Awbrey, a brother who woefully committed suicide in December of 2023.
“I wanted to support AFSP in honor of Matthew Awbrey, not only because he was my little and one of my best friends, but because our brothers are only a small percentage of the people who have lost someone to suicide,” Wesolek said. “Supporting the AFSP to try and prevent people from feeling the pain Matthew felt and the pain that his loved ones felt is the least that FarmHouse can do.”
With marks of $30,000+ raised and 472 donors, Troy FarmHouse’s ‘24 Philanthropy Week was one of the most successful in recent memory. According to CrowdChange, this year was the first time Troy FarmHouse raised over $17,000, eclipsing marks of $16,533, $12,585, and $8,462 from 2023, 2022, and 2021, respectively.
“Being successful at one of the hardest positions to hold in FarmHouse would have felt great regardless of the situation, but the cause this year made it exponentially better. Overall, it was one of the greatest weeks of my life, and I couldn’t be happier with the way everything turned out.”
